A Little R & R

The past few weeks have come and gone so fast I feel as though I am in a constant state of whiplash. With the anticipation and preparations for Christmas finished, and all of the parties, gatherings, and general merriment of the season behind me for another year, I felt a need to get of out town and have a few days of rest and relaxation. My favourite place to do this is at my parent's Lake House at Buena Vista.

It is so nice to get away and just enjoy the quiet and calm that lake life brings. Of course, that isn't to say that there aren't lots of big decisions to make at the Lake House. One of the biggest decisions I made was "Should I have merlot or chardonnay with my turkey soup"?

It really was a tough decision.

The atmosphere at the Lake House is perfect to calm my mind and spirit and get away from the busy day-to-day responsibilities that being in the city entails. I took my camera with me to get a few good shots of our little winter paradise.

Oli loves the Lake House. There are lot of places for him to curl up and shed. I mean sleep.

A little visiter who came by.

Some of the highlights of this particular trip to the Lake House were two of the walks my mom, dad and I took in -30 degree weather. The nice thing was that the sun was out in full force and despite the slightly chilly temperatures we ventured out. We brought our cameras so we could make our walk a photo-journey. It was a good thing we did...when we got to the bottom of the first hill we turned around and saw a rainbow!

None of us had ever seen a rainbow in the winter time before.

It was one of the most beautiful things we had ever seen. And one of the most unexpected too!

It arched right over our cabin.

We think it was Bailey saying "Hi".

The view from the top of the hill by my parent's place.

We had the path to ourselves which was probably best as we were so bundled up onlookers mostly likely thought we were abominable snowmen.

"Fake running" on the ice is the most running I have done in the past 2 months.

Channeling my inner 5 year old.

Say whaaaaaaaaaat? A Saskatchewan Roughriders ice fishing hut? In the middle of the lake? Ok, if I went ice fishing I would definately want to fish in here. And by fish I mean stand in the hut for 30 seconds before I got too cold and went in for a glass of wine:)

The walk got so cold my eyelashes froze together. It was fun though.

All in all the past few days were a great way to rejeuvenate before New Years festivities.

Personally, I could use a few days back at the Lake House to rest again after last night! I hope that you all had a safe and Happy New Year!

I am pretty sure that I have eaten nothing but turkey soup since Christmas - yummmmm!!! I could live off of it and be happy.

    The Lake house sounds beautiful.
